Toe boards | Edge protection falling objects
Additional information regarding guardrails, edge protection can be found in OSHA’s rules on walking working surfaces and personal fall protection systems: Guarding of Edges: www.osha.gov/laws-regs/regulations/standardnumber/1917/1917.112
Additional information regarding edge protection of stairs, stepladders and guard-rails, step ladders or landings, platforms and walkways safety of machinery can be found in the International Standardization Organization: ISO 14122-1:2016, Safety of machinery — Permanent means of access to machinery www.iso.org/obp/ui/en/#iso:std:iso:14122:-3:ed-2:v1:en:fig:10
The kick plate on a platform protection is an elevated work space which has safety barriers (or kick plates) installed to protect items and objects from sliding off the edges of the platform. These kick plates are required to comply to the safety standards of NEN -EN (13374 and 14122). A toe kick plate is designed to be a safety barrier when tools are kicked and slide over the platform floor edges. These dropped objects creates a safety risk for personnel working below the elevated platform.
The design and requirements for kick plate construction to prevent falling object for platforms and landings can be found in the standards; NEN-EN 13374 or NEN-EN 14122

A kick plate works like a safety barrier. It will stop sliding tools or objects that are being kicked around or accidently moved around, to slide off the edge of the working area. The kick plates are designed to protect workers below from getting injured or killed by dropped objects. It is a crucial safety barrier in the design of walkways, platform landings and elevated working areas.
The design of kick-plates or toe boards are mandatory for elevated platforms and landings. Design of kickplates and toe boards should be done in accordance with these standards: NEN-EN 13374 or NEN-EN 14122. Kick plate and toe boards are mandatory to stop tools from sliding off the edge of the work space while working at height. It is a crucial safety barrier designed to stop dropped objects for elevated work locations, platforms and landings.

Kick plates, also known as floor kick plates, toe-board or edge protection collar is a small upstanding safety barrier for elevated work locations. This edge protected kick plate is designed to stop tools from sliding off the edge of the work space while working at height. It is a safety barrier designed to stop dropped objects. It also prevents the passage of body in between the work floor and the knee rail.
A kick plate in scaffolding is a dropped object barrier, also known as floor kick plates, toe-board or edge protection collar is a small upstanding safety barrier for elevated work locations. It also prevents the passage of body in between the scaffold floor and the knee rail of the scaffold.
The benefits of kick plates is that the kick plates decrease the risk of dropped objects and falling tools at height, it also prevents the passage of a body. Like guard rails or knee rails; kick plates are a sure safe work barrier designed to protect persons working on levels and floors below.
